About Me

RE: End of Month Report

As requested, the following includes the evaluation of our sales as well as a few issues that we will like to highlight. Kindly note that this report is derived from the common consensus of the working staff at Marina Square outlet. It is in no way vindictive-natured or of malicious intent.

For the past two weeks, our daily sales ranged from an approximate $100 to an utmost $300. It was a situation similar to that before the so-called renovation. We had expectations of inclining sales right after the redevelopment, brought about by the implementation of a new menu made possible by a well-equipped kitchen. However our optimism for ameliorative sales was dampened by the realisation that nothing has changed when we went back for the unsuccessful training on 16th May. Putting aside our skeptical judgment on the management’s administration of factors such as location and advertising, our belief in the capabilities of the organisation was once again befallen dubious. On the other hand, we look forward to better sales in time to come due to the recent launching of promotions and the continuous efforts of the staff in up-selling, albeit the preceding adversities.

Moving on, we will like to touch on the topic regarding the need to educate consumers on the ‘proper way of drinking Vietnamese coffee’ by delivering the requested demonstration. We tried to drive our point across that this is not advisable as some may feel insulted by our very actions, and a verbal explanation will suffice. Egotism is a reality of life not to be trifled with. However, our notion was simply dismissed. As predicted, this untactful act backfired. On 25th May, Derek was rebuked when he approached a customer as instructed. And I hereby quote the customer’s derogatory response ‘can you get lost!’ This is a perfect example depicting the ideals the management sees without realising that it is the staff at the outlets who are suffering the drawbacks, not forgetting the unenviable situations we land ourselves in every now and then. We are hired as potential individuals able to contribute to the organisation, not mindless puppets made to do as told. Convince us, do not command. Kindly make an effort to review this matter.

In addition, we will like to direct attention to the incident on 26th May when Derek had diarrheoa and was not able to commit the opening on time. Without a tinge of care or concern he was reprimanded by his superior, specifically the business development manager, for this intractable and unfortunate incident. We are deeply infuriated by the apathy displayed by the supervisor who placed priority on the insignificant sales obtainable over the health of his staff. One who is incapable of grasping every single transaction possible may be deemed to have failed as an employee, but one who shows stolidity towards his staff’s well-being is indescribably worse – he fails as a human being, who is born with a gift of compassion and sympathy.

Last but not least, the issue regarding the business development manager’s perception that his subordinate managers are being ‘too soft’ when handling the staff. The fact is that there is certainly no precise or definite style of leadership. Each has its pros and cons. The indispensable fundamental is critically earning the respect we deserve and accomplishing the tasks assigned. So we seek cooperation for the referenced personnel to conduct a self-reassessment before attempting another comment or make an effort to enlighten us if there is a need to.

We are all working towards a common objective – to improve the organisation and ourselves as a whole. So pardon our ingenuousness in the light of our desire for accomplishment.

Yours Sincerely,
Kelvin Soo (on behalf of the Marina Square staff)

ever wondered what's the purpose of life, thought about your dreams and sorted out the practicality you are bounded by? it struck me when i was first exposed to it. made me realised how insignificant my mentality was. perhaps it's a wake-up call...
